Improved Turbocharger Wash Water Lines Group Available On Engines Powered By Residual (Heavy) Fuel{1052}

Usage:

3616 ( 1PD ) Engines

Description of Change: An improved turbocharger wash water lines group is available for 3616 Engines that use residual (heavy) fuel. The new lines group has dual drain lines for easier identification and monitoring of the cleaning process. The turbochargers on these engines should be cleaned every 100 hours to minimize deposits on the turbine wheel.

Adaptable To: The new 7E4377 Water Lines Group is a direct replacement for the former 9Y1627 Water Lines Group.

Use the following procedure to wash the turbochargers on the above engines when equipped with the new 7E4377 Turbocharger Wash Water Lines Group.

Left side view of turbocharger water wash components.

1. Reduce engine load to decrease exhaust temperatures 40 to 50°C (72 to 90°F) below full load exhaust temperatures.

2. Open drain valves (5) and (6). Check to see that drain lines (2) and (3) are not clogged.

3. Fully open needle valves (1). There are two needle valves in each exhaust manifold.

4. Open water supply valve (4) slowly (fully open in 30 seconds). Regulate the supply valve to obtain 0.1 L/min (.03 gpm) flow of wash water out of each drain valve. The water pressure must be 320 kPa (46 psi) or greater at the inlet of the water supply valve.

5. The washing time is 5 to 10 minutes. A measure for the washing time is the cleanliness and clarity of the water from the drain valves.

6. After washing is complete, close supply valve (4) first. Then close needle valves (1). Continue to operate the engine at reduced load until all the parts are dry (about 3 minutes). Close drain valves (5) and (6).
