Final Drive Planetary Carrier (In Chassis) - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the axle.

Note: Position the final drive drain plug on the bottom of the final drive. Remove the drain plug.

  1. Drain the oil from the final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil - Change".

  2. Remove two bolts (1) and install Tooling (A). Remove the remaining bolts (1).

  3. Attach Tooling (B) to outer planet carrier (2). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B). The weight of outer planet carrier (2) is approximately 109 kg (240 lb).

  4. Use a suitable pry bar to separate the outer planet carrier (2) from the housing. Remove outer planet carrier (2).

  5. Remove O-ring seal (3) from outer planet carrier (2).

  6. Remove thrust ring (4) from inner planet carrier (5).

  7. Attach Tooling (C) to inner planet carrier (5). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C). The weight of inner planet carrier (5) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Remove inner planet carrier (5).

  8. Remove thrust ring (6) and lip seal (7).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install outer planetary carrier (2) and inner planetary carrier (5) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Install lip seal (7) in the direction indicated in Illustration 7 towards the center of the machine.

    2. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (199 ± 30 lb ft).
