Fuel Tank - Remove

Usage:

814F BGF

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

LIFT EYES OR TANK CAN FAIL WHEN LIFTING TANK CONTAINING FLUIDS RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY. DRAIN TANK OF ALL FLUIDS BEFORE LIFTING.

Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.

Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.

  1. Relieve the system pressure by slowly opening the fuel cap.

  1. Drain the fuel from the tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Turn two fuel valves (1) to the OFF position.

  1. Remove cable straps (3). Disconnect electrical connector (2) .

  1. Remove hose assemblies (4) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device and a hoist to the fuel tank.

  1. Remove mounting bolts (5) from the front and from the rear of the fuel tank.

  1. Use a hoist to remove the fuel tank from the machine. The weight of an empty fuel tank is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).
