Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag or a similar warning tag to the start switch or to the controls before you service the equipment. These warning tags (Special Instruction, SEHS7332) are available from your Caterpillar dealer.
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury. |
Personal injury or death can result from sudden work tool movement. Sudden movement of the work tool can cause injury to persons near the work tool. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the work tool is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the work tool. |

- Updating ECM Settings: Reference the following description for selecting the proper "Quick Coupler Configuration". There are either one or two parameters to update, depending on the machine software and system installed.
- Parameter: "Quick Coupler Installation Status" (ET) "Quick Coupler" (Monitor)
- Not Installed: "Quick Coupler" control system is not installed on the machine.
- Installed without Coupler Accelerator: This setting is the traditional North American setting that only applies voltage to the coupler valve when the switch is flipped. This setting is used with the "Center Lock" pin grabber, and new ISO CAT pin grabber couplers. This setting can also be used on the machines with the universal coupler.
- Installed with Coupler Accelerator: This setting is used on machines with universal coupler control circuit, traditionally EAME machines. Except for ACS machines 336E H, 336FXE, 374F, 390F, the machine must have the added hardware for this feature. In addition to applying voltage to the "Quick Coupler" valve, the added hardware also energizes another solenoid that causes pump pressure to rise. This is often done through shifting the boom 2 spool in the reverse direction to block the NFC open center passage, causing NFC pressure to drop the pump to stroke up. Because the universal coupler control valve is plumbed to the pump discharge pressure tap, it will immediately receive pressure to start unlocking the coupler before the operator has moved the joystick. This setting is not to be used with the center lock or old pin grabber and again requires the added hardware on non-ACS machines.
- Parameter: "Quick Coupler Constant Engagement Pressure System" (ET) or "QC Constant Engage" (Monitor)
Note: Software released in Summer of 2014 for select E and F series machines have this second "Quick Coupler" parameter added to the configuration options. This parameter is seen only when you select "Quick Coupler Installation Status" (ET) or "Quick Coupler" (Monitor) == Installed without Coupler Accelerator.
- Not Installed: This setting is for machines that do not have the factory ISO CAT Pin Grabber coupler control system. This setting is used on machines built before the ISO coupler control system was available from the factory, machines with the universal coupler control system, and machines that are equipped with the "Work Tools" field install ISO coupler control system utilizing Hydromechanical signals instead of the second solenoid valve.
- Installed: This setting is only for machines that have the factory ISO Pin Grabber coupler control system. Either machines that have this installed from the factory or machines that had the factory system installed in the field (ACS when kits are available). This setting requires the Quick Coupler "Hold Valve" to be in the Quick Coupler control system.
