Lifting and Tying Down

Usage:

Moving heavy parts must be done safely and with adequate lifting capacity. Failure to do so can result in injury or death. Use caution and adequate lifting capacity when moving heavy parts.



NOTICE

Improper lifting or tiedowns can allow load to shift and can cause injury and damage.


Lifting

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Specifications" for the weight of the work tool.

  1. Use two properly rated lifting straps that are equal in length in order to lift the thumb.

  2. Position the two straps around the ends of the work tool in order to keep the work tool level and secure when lifting. Do not use chains or cables to lift the work tool.

  3. Attach the ends of the lifting straps to the hoist.

  4. Slowly raise the hoist to lift the thumb.

    Note: Use care when you lift the thumb. When you begin to lift the thumb, the thumb could rotate.

Tying Down

  1. Place the work tool on a suitable pallet.

  2. Use properly rated cables or slings in order to secure the work tool to the pallet.
