Description of Change: Several improvements have been performed in order to prevent the engine valve cover from burning. The addition of a new heat shield plate protects the engine valve cover from the high temperature exhaust. The application of a sealant to the joints of the exhaust piping prevents heat from leaking out of the joints in the exhaust piping. The correct installation of the muffler clamp prevents the clamp from loosening and breaking.

Adaptable To: The new 233-1314 Support replaces the former 222-8263 Support on 385B and 5090B Excavators. The effectivity and the adaptability of the new support is listed in Table 1. The location of the components is shown in Illustration 1.

The effectivity and adaptability of the improvements to the exhaust piping is listed in Table 1. The location of the components is shown in Illustration 3. Use the procedure that follows for the installation of the heat shield plate on 385B and 5090B Excavators. The procedure for the improvements to the exhaust piping is adaptable to all of the models that are listed.

    (C) 15 mm (0.6 inch)

    (D) 97 mm (3.8 inch)

  1. Remove the former turbocharger cover. Install the new support (1). Use bolts (3) and washers (4) .

  1. Drill a 10 mm (0.4 inch) hole in the muffler guard. The location for the center of the hole is shown in Illustration 2.

  1. Install plate (2). Use bolts (5) and washers (4). Use bolt (3), washers (6), and nut (7) in order to assemble the plate to the hole that was drilled in Step 3.

Application Of The High Temperature Sealant

Apply the high temperature sealant to the exhaust piping of all the models that are listed. The sealant prevents exhaust leaks from the piping.

    (H) Gradually tighten the two bolts for the muffler clamp. Tighten the bolts equally.

    (J) Apply 2P-2333 High Temperature Sealer to the male end of the exhaust pipe.

  1. Apply the sealant to joint (F) and to joint (J) of the exhaust piping. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Gradually tighten the two bolts for the muffler clamp. Tighten the bolts equally. Tighten the bolts to 100 ± 20 N·m (74.0 ± 15 lb ft).

Note: The 7Y-1144 Clamp As is not a reusable part. Install a new clamp assembly if the former clamp assembly is removed.
