Hydraulic Accumulator (High Pressure) - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the Service Manual, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

------ WARNING! ------

The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Sudden release of nitrogen pressure can cause personal injury.

To avoid personal injury, release the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator before disassembly.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    (3) High pressure hydraulic accumulator

  1. Remove plug (1) and the O-ring seal.

  2. Slowly turn plug (2) in a counterclockwise direction. When nitrogen gas begins to escape, stop turning plug (2).

  3. When the gas can no longer be heard, turn plug (2) for another 360 degrees in a counterclockwise direction.

  4. Remove plug (2) and the O-ring seal.

  5. Remove bolts (4).

  6. Slowly lift accumulator (3) from the control valve.
