Usage:
(1) End play for the crankshaft ... 0.20 to 0.53 mm (.008 to .021 in.)
Maximum permissible end play for the crankshaft ... 0.89 mm (.035 in.)
(2) Torque for counterweight bolts ... 219 ± 14 N·m (160 ± 10 lb ft)
(3) Width of ring groove in thrower ... 6.480 to 6.518 mm (2.550 to .2566 in.)
Minimum clearance between ring seal and groove ... 0.18 mm (.007 in.)
Clearance between ends of ring seal (end gap ... 0.76 to 1.27 mm (.030 to .050 in.)
Ring seal groove "runout" (axial eccentricity) of ring groove face of thrower ... 0.15 mm (.006 in.)
NOTE: Heat the thrower to a maximum of 232°C (450°F) before installation on crankshaft. Install seal ring with the word "out" away from crankshaft and the end gap UP.
(4) Torque for bolt ... 45 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft)
(5) Crankshaft bend - all engines:
Close in ... -0.013 mm (-.0005 in.)
Spread ... +0.025 mm (+.001 in.)
Measure between faces of connecting rod throws of the crankshaft next to the center main bearings within 6.35 mm (.250 in.) of counterweight.
(6) Depth to drive 3N3234 Ring into flywheel housing or front accessory drive housing.
Front ... 8.71 mm (.344 in.)
Rear ... 4.49 mm (.177 in.)
NOTE: Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the outside of ring before installation. Install ring with holes at bottom and chamfer toward inside of housing.
(7) Install crankshaft in cylinder block as follows:
G379 - Install the end marked "FRT" to the front of the engine and the end with the flywheel alignment mark to the rear of the engine for both standard rotation and reverse rotation engines.
G398 & G399 - Install so direction of rotation marks on the end of the crankshaft show correct rotation at the front of the engine.
