Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

A6 Network Managers (Factory installed: PL702, PL602H and After market: PL602P) can lose power and stop sending messages. Also does not wake up when machine is keyed on after being in low-power mode. A corruption of the code deep in the device can get hung up and cause the device to stop communication.

This issue is not commonly occurring. Not all devices are affected, many will never see this issue. However, once that do encounter this issue more than once, will likely encounter this issue repeatedly.

If the Network Manager fails to boot-up, it causes the Cat Grade 3D system to become inoperable. If the Network Manager fails to boot-up, it will appear to the operator as shown in Illustration 1 (Grade Control Issue).

The problem that is identified above has an infrequent occurrence and two options for correction are suggested below depending on severity of impact.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this issue however due to the infrequent occurrence, Caterpillar recommends that the interim action be tried first. As an interim action, users facing the issue should have a complete power cycle to include key off, disconnect open to completely remove power to the device. (allow 10 minutes for the Network Manager to completely power down). It may require a couple of power cycles to recapture the Network Manager.

If the device encounters this issue for two to three times, then there is a need for replacement of the device, as the firmware updates are not capable of correcting this problem.
