Always wear protective gloves when handling parts that have been heated. |
- Raise the temperature of ball bearings (10), and install ball bearings (10) to the shaft.

Illustration 3 g06392968 - Install lip seal (8) and seal ring (7). Repeat for the other housing assembly.
- Use Tooling (B) to measure the thickness of housing assembly (6) at location (X).

Illustration 4 g06392032 - Prior to assembly, pack housing assembly (6) half full with Tooling (C). Apply Tooling (C) to lip seal (9), seal ring (8), and the splines of the hitch drive shaft prior to installation. Repeat for the other housing assembly.
- Install housing assembly (6). Repeat for the other housing assembly.
Install bolts (5) and the washers. Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of
12 ± 2 N·m (107 ± 18 lb in) .Note: Do not install the shim pack at this point.
Show/hide tableIllustration 5 g06392577 - Use Tooling (D) at location (y) to measure the distance from the top of housing assembly (6) and the surface of the other housing assembly.
- Subtract the dimension found at Location (X) found in Step 4 from the dimension found at Location (Y) in Step 7. This number is the required thickness for the shim pack.

- Remove housing assembly (6).
- Install the shim pack, housing assembly (6), bolts (5), and the washers.

55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 8 lb ft) . Repeat for the opposite side.

Note: Orient ball bearings (10) so that the beveled edges are facing each other.
