Fuel System - Prime

NOTICE

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.


Prime the fuel system in order to fill dry fuel filters and purge air from the fuel system. Prime the fuel system after the following occurrences:

  • The fuel filter elements are replaced.

  • The engine is run dry.

  • The fuel lines have been disconnected.

  • The engine has been overhauled.

  • The engine is removed from storage.

    Vent plugs for the fuel filters

  1. Open the vent plugs for the fuel filters.

  1. Operate the fuel priming pump of the vessel until fuel appears at the openings of the vent plugs. Operate the priming pump until the fuel flows free of air bubbles. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.

  1. Tighten the vent plugs.

Priming the Fuel System After Disconnecting Fuel Lines or After an Overhaul

  1. Loosen the connector that is above the fuel pressure regulator valve. Use a cloth to catch any fuel and clean up any fuel that overflows.

  1. Operate the fuel priming pump of the vessel until fuel appears at the opening of the connector. Operate the priming pump until the fuel flows free of air bubbles. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.

  1. Tighten the connector that is above the fuel pressure regulator valve.
