Introduction

ReferenceRefer to the Disassembly and Assembly manual for your machine.

This special instruction contains the information that is needed in order to install the 282-9956 Cushion Swing Conversion Ar (Kit). Installing the kit will minimize the movement of the boom at the end of a swing movement. The swing cushion valves relieve the pressures that cause this undesired motion.

Before performing the conversion that is outlined in this Special Instruction, ensure that you understand the information that is contained in the Special Instruction.

Required Parts

The parts that are required for the field installation of the 282-9956 Cushion Swing Conversion Ar (Kit) are identified in Table 1.

Installation

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  1. Lower the work tools to the ground. Stop the engine.

  1. Release hydraulic system pressure.

Note: Refer to "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in the Disassembly and Assembly manual for your machine.
