Problem:
Fuel may leak from the weep hole which is located on the bottom of the Stanadyne Model DB4 Fuel Injection Pump, near the pump mounting flange. The leak is normally observed on a cold engine and is aggravated by cold weather. This leak may be anything from a few drops to a steady stream of fuel. In most cases the leak disappears after the engine warms up. The chart provides a cross reference between engine models, machine models, Caterpillar Part Numbers, and Stanadyne Part Numbers. Only the Stanadyne Part Number appears on the fuel injection pump.
Solution:
If you have an engine or machine with the above problem, remove the fuel injection pump and take it to your local authorized Stanadyne repair shop. Stanadyne Dealers have been made aware of this problem. They will replace a lip type shaft seal in the pump with a Teflon seal. This repair should be done free of charge to the Caterpillar Dealer. The Caterpillar Dealer should be ready to provide the machine and engine serial numbers and the engine or machine "In Service Date" to the Stanadyne Dealer. For a complete listing of Stanadyne Dealers, See the "Stanadyne Worldwide Service Directory", Caterpillar Form Number SENR5819.
