Oil Pump

Usage:

Remove Oil Pump

1. Remove oil from oil pan.

2. Remove the bolts and both inspection covers (1).

3. Remove suction bell (4) from oil pump.

4. Remove bolts (3) from outlet tube (2) for oil pump.

5. Remove the bolts from scavenge tube (5).

6. Remove the four bolts, two on each side, that hold the oil pump to cylinder block.

7. Remove oil pump (6) from oil pan. Weight of oil pump is 70 lb. (32 kg).

Install Oil Pump

1. Fill oil pump with clean oil.

2. Put oil pump (1) in place on cylinder block and install bolts (3) and locks.

3. Install bolts and locks in scavenge tube.

4. Install bolts and locks in pump outlet tube (2).

5. Install suction bell.

6. Install the inspection covers (4) and bolts.

7. Fill oil pan with clean oil. Start engine and check oil pressure. Check oil pressure and oil level again when engine is at operating temperature.

Disassemble Oil Pump

start by:

a) remove oil pump

1. Remove cover (2) and suction screen for scavenge pump.

2. Remove cotter pin and loosen nut (1) even with end of shaft.

3. Pull gear (3) loose from shaft with tooling (A). Remove tooling (A), nut, gear and key from shaft.

4. Remove the nuts, bolts (4) and locks from body assembly.

5. Remove gears (6) and shaft from the pump bodies.

6. Remove bearings (8) from pump bodies (5) and (7), cover (9) and gears with tooling (B).

7. Loosen the bolts that hold cover (10) evenly to release the tension on spring (11). Remove cover (10), spring (11) and plunger (12).

Assemble Oil Pump

1. Install the bearings in pump gears with tooling (A). The edge of bearing must be .016 in. (0.41 mm) below surface of gear.

2. Install bearing in cover (1) with tooling (A). Oil hole (2) in bearing must be in position shown. The edge of bearing must be .030 in. (0.76 mm) below surface of cover, dimension "X".

3. Install bearing in body (3) with tooling (A). Oil hole in bearing must be in alignment with oil hole in body. Oil hole in bearing must be in direction of shaft (6). The edge of bearing must be .030 in. (0.76 mm) below inside surface of body.

4. Install bearing in body (5) with tooling (A). The edge of bearing must be .030 in. (0.76 mm) below surface (4) of body.

5. Install the shaft and gears in the pump bodies.

6. Put the pump bodies and cover together and install the bolts, locks and nuts. Pump shaft must turn freely after nuts are tightened.


NOTICE

Two bolts (7) and (10) are ground body bolts and must be installed in holes shown.


7. Install gear (8), washer and nut (9). Tighten nut to 100 lb. ft. (135 N·m). Tighten nut again until cotter pin can be installed.

8. Install screen and cover (11) for scavenge pump.

9. Install plunger, spring and cover for relief valve in pump body.
