Governor (Later)

Usage:

Remove Governor (Later)

1. Move the governor control to the "OFF" position.

2. Disconnect tube (2) from the fuel ratio control.

3. Remove bolts (3) that hold the governor in position.

4. Remove governor (1).

Install Governor (Later)

1. Remove the cover from the fuel pump and governor drive housing.


NOTICE

Make sure the lever that engages the rack assembly is in the correct position.


2. Put governor (2) in position on the fuel pump and governor drive housing.

3. Install the bolts that hold the governor in position.

4. Connect tube (1) to the fuel ratio control.

5. Install the cover on the fuel pump and governor drive housing.

Disassemble Governor

start by:

a) remove fuel ratio control

b) remove governor

1. Remove bolt (2). Remove cover (1) and the gasket from over the high and low idle screws.

2. Remove five bolts (3) from the cover. Loosen the high and low idle screws. Remove cover (4) and the gasket from the housing assembly.

3. Remove high idle screw (6) and low idle screw (5) from the cover.

4. Remove the seal from the high idle screw.

5. Remove pin (7) from the low idle screw.

6. Install tool (A) on the end of the low idle screw as shown. Put the low idle screw in a vise and use pry bars to remove end (8) from sleeve (9).

7. Remove screw (10) from the sleeve. Remove spring (11) from the end. Remove seal (12) from the end.

8. Loosen screw (16). Remove collar (13) and spring (14) from the bolt.

9. Loosen bolt and nut (15). Remove lever (17) from the shaft.

10. Remove plug (18), spring (19) and plunger (20) from the housing assembly.

11. Remove two bolts (21) and the lock from the torque control. Remove torque control (22) from the housing assembly.

12. Remove four bolts (23). Remove housing assembly (24) from the lower housing assembly.

13. Remove seat assembly (28), wave washer (25), washer (27), wave washer (26) and spring (25) from the guide in the housing assembly.

14. Remove bolt (29) and the lock from the shaft and band assembly.

15. Remove shaft (30) and the lever assembly from the housing assembly.

16. Remove pin (31) from the lever assembly. Remove spring (33) and plunger (32).

17. Remove seal (34) from the housing assembly.

18. Remove plug (35) from the housing assembly.

19. Remove two bearings (36) from the housing assembly.

20. Remove bumper spring (39) from the bolt.

21. Remove bolts (38) and lock (40) that hold the weight assembly in position. Remove weight assembly (37).

22. Remove ring (43) and pin (44) from the seat.

23. Remove seat (42) and bolt (41).

24. Remove two washers (45) and spring (46) from the seat.

25. Remove sleeve (47), two races (48), bearing (50) and ring (49) from the weight assembly.

26. Remove valve (51) from the weight assembly.

27. Remove ring (54). Remove cylinder (53) from weight assembly (52).

28. Remove the two pins that hold the weights in position. Remove the weights.

29. Remove sleeve (55) and piston (56) from the cylinder.

30. Remove seal (57) from the piston.

31. Remove valve assembly (58) and the gasket from the housing assembly.

32. Remove pin (61), slug (60) and spring (59) from the valve assembly.

33. Remove shaft (62) from the housing assembly.

34. Remove seal (63) from the shaft.

35. Remove pin (64) from the housing assembly.

36. Remove cover (65) and shaft assembly (66) from the housing assembly.

37. Remove gear (67) from the cover.

38. Remove ring (69) from the groove in the retainer.

39. Remove dowel (72) from the retainer, gear assembly and shaft assembly. Remove the shaft assembly and gear assembly from the cover.

40. Remove the pin that holds yoke (71) to the spring. Remove the yoke.

41. Remove the pin that holds the spring to the gear. Remove retainer (68) and spring (70) from the gear.

42. Remove gear (73) from the shaft assembly with an arbor press.

43. Remove bearing (74) from the housing assembly.

Assemble Governor

1. Install plunger (2), and spring (1) in the lever assembly. Install pin (4) that holds the plunger and spring in position.

2. Install the two bearings in the housing part of the way with tool (A).

3. Put lever assembly (3) in the housing assembly as shown. Install the shaft.

4. Measure the distance between the guide and the lever assembly with a feeler gauge as shown.

5. Dimensions (X) and (Y) are controlled by the depth of the two bearings in the housing assembly. Dimension (Y) must be .1227 ± .0040 in. (3.117 ± 0.102 mm). Dimension (X) must be .0877 ± .0040 in. (2.228 ± 0.102 mm). It might be necessary to remove the shaft and lever assembly in order to find a location for the bearings so dimensions (X) and (Y) are correct.

6. Remove the shaft and lever assembly from the housing assembly.

7. Install the seal in the housing assembly with tool (B). Install the seal even with the outside surface of the housing assembly and with the lip toward the inside of the housing assembly.

8. Install the lever assembly and shaft in the housing assembly. Install the lock and bolt (5) that hold them.

9. Install plug (6) in the housing assembly with tool (C).

10. Put shaft assembly (7) in gear (8) as shown. Push the shaft assembly on the gear with an arbor press.

11. Put spring (12) in gear (9). Install the pin that holds them together.

12. Slide retainer (10) and ring (11) on the spring. Put yoke (14) on the spring and install the pin that holds it. Put the shaft assembly in the cover. Install the spring and gear assembly in the shaft assembly. Install dowel (13) that holds them together.

13. Install ring (11) in the groove of retainer (10).

14. Install gear (15) in the cover as shown.

15. Install bearing (16) in the housing assembly with tool (A) and an arbor press.

16. Put the shaft assembly and cover in the housing assembly.

17. Install seal (17) on pin (18). Put lever (19) in position in the housing assembly as shown. Install pin (18).

18. Put spring (21) and slug (22) in valve assembly (20). Install pin (23) in the valve assembly.

19. Install valve assembly (20) in the housing assembly. Tighten valve assembly to a torque of 27 ± 5 lb. ft. (38 ± 7 N·m).

20. Install seal (24) on the piston.

21. Put piston (25) and sleeve (26) in cylinder (27).

22. Put two weights (29) in position on the weight assembly holder. Install two dowels (30) that hold them in position.

23. Put cylinder (27) in the weight assembly. Install ring (28) that holds the unit together.

24. Install race (32), bearing (33), race (34) and ring (35) on sleeve (31).

25. Install the unit on the weight assembly as shown.

26. Install bolt (36) in the seat. Install washer (37) spring (38) and washer (39) in the seat.

27. Put the bolt and seat assembly in position on the weight assembly.


NOTICE

Make sure the weights are in the position shown.


28. Install pin (41). Install ring (40) in the groove of the seat.

29. Put the weight assembly in position in the cover. Install bolts (42) that hold it.

30. Put wave washer (44), washer (45), wave washer (46) and spring (47) in position on seat (43). Install the unit in the housing assembly.

31. Put lower housing (48) in position on upper housing (49). Install the bolts that hold the housings together.

32. Install torque control (50) and the bolts that hold it in position.

33. Install plunger (53), spring (52) and plug (51) in the upper housing assembly.

34. Install the spring on the bolt. Install collar (54) and the screw. Tighten the nut on the screw to a torque of 9 ± 3 lb. ft. (12 ± 4 N·m).

35. Install seal (57) on end (60).

36. Put screw (55) in sleeve (58). Slide spring (56) over the screw.

37. Install the screw in the end with an arbor press. Push on the screw until the hole in the screw is in alignment with the hole in the end.

38. Install pin (59).

39. Install strainer assembly (61) in cover (62). Put the cover in position on the upper housing. Install the bolts that hold it.

40. Install low idle screw (63) and high idle screw (64) in the cover.

41. Put cover (65) in position over the high and low idle screws. Install the bolt that holds it.

b) install fuel ratio control
