- (1 - Rework Procedure)
Rework Procedure
1. Clean all debris from around tips.
2. Using a sledge hammer (10-pound maximum) and a drift punch, drive the existing pins out of the tips. Best results are obtained by working on the top third of the wheel at a time. When finished with that third, rotate the wheel and work on the next third of the wheel. Repeat process until all tips have been reworked.
3. After driving out the pins, lift off the tip and remove the existing retainer from the counterbore of the 8E7604 Adapter. Clean out the adapter pin hole with a inch drill bit.
4. Insert a new 1073449 Retainer in the counterbore of the adapter. See illustration below.
5. Install tip over adapter.
6. Use 4C9507 or 9S3263 Thread Lock to cover the middle of a new 1073448 Pin.
7. Insert the tapered end of the pin into the tip against the retainer. Make sure the hole on the opposite side of the tip is lined up with the hole in the adapter. See illustration below.
8. While standing on the wheel, use a ten pound sledge hammer to drive the pins into the tip until the pin is flush with the side of the tip.
9. Mark each reworked tip with spray paint to indicate that the pin and retainer have been replaced.
