Usage:
Serious injury or death could result when incorrectly towing a disabled machine. Use the following instructions for proper towing procedure. |
NOTICE |
---|
These towing instructions are for moving disabled machines a short distance, only a few feet at low speed, no faster than 1.2 mph (2 km), to a convenient location for repair. These instructions are for emergencies only. Always haul the machine if long distance moving is required. |
NOTICE |
---|
If the steer system and brake system work and the engine is operable, it is not necessary to disconnect the brake or steer system before towing the machine. |
- 1. If the engine is inoperable and there is no steering and brake control, block the drum and rear tires securely to prevent machine movement.
- 2. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses leading to the drum drive motor at the propel pump.
- 3. Cap the ports in the propel pump, then connect the two hoses together to form a closed loop to the drum drive motor. Be sure the propel control lever is in the STOP position.
- 4. Secure the hoses.
- 5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the rear propel motor.
- 6. Machines with S/N 6JD112 & up, disconnect and plug the hoses assembly from the drum brake and install a hand operated hydraulic pump. Hydraulic oil pressure of at least 2750 kPa (400 psi) is required to release the brakes.
- 7. Disconnect the steer cylinder from the yoke and secure the cylinder from the main frame.
- 8. Attach the tow line to the machine to be towed.
Shielding must be provided on the towing machine, to protect the operator if the tow line should break. |
While towing the machine without brakes, a vehicle must be attached to each end of the machine being towed to provide sufficient control and braking when moving a disabled machine downhill. This will prevent it from rolling uncontrolled. Uncontrolled motion could cause serious injury or death. |
- 9. Attach the tow line to the vehicle and/or vehicles used to tow the disabled machine.
Before towing, make sure the tow line is in good condition and has enough strength for the towing situation involved. Use a towing line with a strength of at least 1.5 times the gross weight of the towing machine, for a disabled machine stuck in the mud or when towing on a grade. |
Keep the tow line angle to a minimum. Do not exceed a 30° angle from the straight ahead position. |
NOTICE |
---|
Because the instructions cannot cover all the variables that may be encountered when towing a disabled machine chose a towing vehicle with sufficient power and braking capacity to control the towed vehicle for the grade and distance involved. The CP-323 weighs approximately 4420 kg (9,750 lb.). |
- 10. Slowly and carefully tow the disabled machine.
NOTICE |
---|
Quick machine movement could overload the tow line and cause it to break. Gradual and smooth machine movement will work better. |
Do not allow riders on the machine being towed, unless the operator can control the steering and/or braking. |
