Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install

Personal injury or death can result from a fire.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.

Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Turn the fuel supply to the “OFF” position.

  2. Disconnect fuel pressure sensor harness (1).

  3. Remove fuel pressure sensor group (2).

  4. Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel filter (3) from fuel filter base.

  5. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) an (5).

  6. Remove bolts (6). Remove fuel filter base (7).

Installation Procedure

  1. Position fuel filter base (7) on the engine. Install bolts (7).

  2. Connect hose assemblies (4) and (5).

  3. Use Tooling (A) to install the fuel filter (3).

  4. Install the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel filter base and tighten to a torque of 10 ± 2 N·m (89 ± 18 lb in).

  5. Connect harness assembly (1) for the fuel pressure sensor.

  6. Turn the fuel supply to the ON position.

  7. Remove the air from the system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, Fuel System - Prime.
