Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
There have been reports from the field that high pressure (HP) fuel pumps are failing.
Solution
Follow the following when troubleshooting a E398 and E499 fault code:
-When submitting a claim story in SIMSi, include the results of the fuel system functional test before the pump was replaced as well as after.
-Include the serial number of the failed pump which is located on top of the injector solenoid.
Note: Fuel filters should always be changed and a new fuel system functional test ran before changing out the fuel pump. Caterpillar will use this information to make the diagnostics and troubleshooting more accurate.
