    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and (3). Remove brackets (2) and cover (4).

  3. Remove bolts (5), nuts (7), and covers (6).

  4. Remove nuts (8) and bolts (9).

  5. Remove bolts (10) and fold flexible shield (11) out of the way.

  6. Remove bolts (12), bolts (14), nuts (13), and shield assembly (15).

  7. Disconnect the exhaust connection to the turbo. Attach a suitable lifting device to air inlet elbow (17). The weight of air inlet elbow (17) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  8. Remove nuts (16) and air inlet elbow (17) from the turbo.

  9. Remove bolts (18) and bellows assembly (19). Remove the gaskets.

  10. Remove bolts (21) and (22). Remove bellows assemblies (20) and (23). Remove the gaskets.

  11. Remove bolts (24) and cover (25).

  12. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (27). The weight of turbocharger (27) is approximately 715 kg (1576 lb). Remove bolts (26) and remove turbocharger (27). There are six bolts in total.

  13. Release latches (28). Remove bolts (29) and (32). Remove shield assemblies (30) and (31).

  14. Remove bolts (33), (34), and shield assembly (35).

  15. Remove bolts (36) and shield assembly (37).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install turbocharger (27) in the reverse order of removal.

      Note: Apply Tooling (B) to all of the hardware for the exhaust shielding and the turbo shielding prior to installation.

    1. Ensure bellows (20) are installed in the direction of flow as indicated by the arrows.

    2. Apply Tooling (B) to bolts (21).

    3. Tighten bolts (18) to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (89 ± 15 lb ft).
