    Illustration 5g03332790

Illustration to show locations of wiring connections and mounting.

Note: Do not remove diode support plate (13). Diode support plate (13) is mounted to the laminations of exciter armature (4) with thread-forming screws. If removed new holes will need to be tapped in the laminations to reinstall the diode support plate (13) to exciter armature (4) .

Note: Orientation of varistor (11) in relation to the key of exciter armature (4) for reassembly.

  1. Mark orientation of clamps (7). Loosen clamps (7) .

  1. Mark orientation of wiring (9) to diode assembly studs (10). Disconnect wiring (9) .

  1. Disconnect diode assembly wiring (6) from diode support (12) .

  1. Remove screws from diode support (12) .

    Illustration 6g03332881

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove exciter armature (4) .

  1. Use two people to remove exciter armature (4). Refer to Table 2 for the approximate weight of exciter armature (4).

    Table 2
Approximate Weight of Exciter Armature (4)
    Model     Approximate Weight
    LC 5
    19 kg (42 lb)
    LC 6
    20 kg (44 lb)
    LC 7
    25 kg (55 lb)

  1. Remove the diode support assembly.

Installation Procedure

Illustration 7g03333213

Note: Inspect exciter rotor (4) inside diameter for damaged laminations that may have occurred during removal. Replace exciter rotor (4) if damage is severe.

Note: To aid in installation, raise the temperature of the exciter rotor (4) and diode support (12) in an oven 110° C (230° F). The diode support (12) must be removed if using an induction heater.

  1. Orientate diode support (12) so the key of the exciter armature (4) and varistor (11) are in the same relation before removal.

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the screws in diode support (12). Install the screws in diode support (12) .

  1. Connect diode assembly wiring (6) to diode support (12) .
