Reference: Truck Engine News, March, 1986, Page 2, "Nylon Seals Used On Lockwire To Seal Critical Areas ", and Truck Engine News, October 1986, Page 2, "More Flexible Lockwire Used With Nylon Seals For Sealing Critical Areas ".

Description of Change: The Reference Articles announce the use of a nylon seal with lockwire for sealing critical engine components such as governors, fuel systems, timing access bolts, etc. As explained in the first REFERENCE ARTICLE, parts service seals were available only to NACD (North American Commercial Division) dealers.

Now, a 7C4472 Wire Seal is available ONLY to dealers outside NACD. This is a special green seal for parts service only. See illustration.

The green parts service seal available only to dealers outside the North American Commercial Division.

Adaptable To: The green 7C4472 Wire Seal with the more flexible 8C4983 Lockwire can be used as a direct replacement for the former aluminum seal in any application. No sealing tool is required.

All dealers except NACD dealers are requested to order the 7C4472 Wire Seal from Caterpillar in the usual manner. It can not be prestamped with the dealer's or customer's code. The minimum order quantity is 250.

All NACD dealers are still requested to order the appropriate color seal(s) directly from the supplier. Do NOT order the Cat part number; this is available only to dealers other than NACD dealers. The Reference Article tells NACD dealers how to order their parts service seals and lists the supplier's address. Orders by NACD dealers to Caterpillar will be blocked by the computer and not accepted.
