Configuration
Engine Overspeed Test
In the engine overspeed test mode, the engine can be tested for overspeed by lowering the overspeed set point to nominal speed.
Overspeed Test Sequence
- Ensure that the engine is not running. The over speed test mode cannot be entered while the engine is running.
- Confirm that the over speed set point has been lowered by observing the red arrow on the rpm meter.
- Start the engine and adjust the rpm until the rpm crosses the red labeled set point.
- Observe engine shutdown.
Overspeed Test Off
The over speed test times out after 5 minutes or when an actual over speed condition occurs.
The test can be turned off also by pressing the over speed icon again.
Connect a PC
If the PC cannot connect to the DCU, there may be an IP address conflict.
Often, the IP address in a laptop PC cannot be changed by the user, since access is blocked due to company policy. If so, the PC IP address can only be set changed by a DHCP server when connected in a network where a DHCP server exists.
The DCU has a DHCP server that is built in in order to allow the process. The DHCP may be activated in order to issue a new IP address to the laptop.
Illustration 6 | g02508336 |
The current IP number (15), is in the DCU, is listed near the top of the display. The next lines of the display show a "Start" and "End" IP address. The display shows the range that the DHCP server will scan. A free address in the range will be given to the connected PC.
Pre-selected Range
The DCU will preselect a range that is outside the current IP address of the DCU. The DCU IP address cannot be within the start and end IP address. Refer to Illustration 6.
Execute The Command
Press the "Save" button. The DHCP server will issue a new IP address to any PC already connected to the DCU. The DHCP server will issue a new IP address to any new PC connected within the "Timeout" period as shown in Illustration 6 as 10 minutes.
Note: The PC keeps the issued IP address even after the time-out.
Network DCU
If the DCU is connected to a local area network (LAN), the DCU cannot be installed to run several DHCP servers in the same LAN. Also, for LAN applications, the IP address of the DCU must be set within the address range of the LAN.
Configuration
The configuration functionality is used to configure parameters for sensors that are related to the DCU.
Access to the parameters is password protected. Information to access the parameters is not provided for in this manual.
Interface Design
Up to Eight DCU 410 controllers can be displayed on one RP410.
Note: Ensure that you know what to do before attempting to change the design or layout of the display that is discussed in this section.
Note: Typically, changing the layout or the screens would only be accomplished by the engine supplier by using the web interface programming tool.

Typical troubleshooting screen with power supply information |
The DCU has a comprehensive set of troubleshooting screens for the DCU. The DCU has a comprehensive set of troubleshooting screens for each of the optional RIO expansion units. The following information relates only to the DCU.
Supply
The two power supplies are listed with information about voltage status and supply selection.
Switch
The switch screen indicates if the switch is open (0V) or closed (24V input) for each of the eight switch channels.
If the troubleshooting screen indicates open, and there is a 24V signal at the input channel, then the channel is faulty.
4-20mA Channels
For each of the four 4-20mA channels, there is an indication of:
- The 2-25mA current is shown in mA
- Broken wire (<2mA)
- Short circuit (>25mA)
- Channel in use or not used
PT100
Each of the four PT100 channels can indicate:
- Value, in Celsius or Fahrenheit
- Faulty circuit
- Channel in use or not used
COM
The "COM" screen lists communication status for communication ports COM 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Output
The output screen lists the output status of DCU terminals 63 to 84.
As an example, if terminal 83 indicates Active (24V) and there is no 24V measured on terminal 83, then that output is faulty.
Input
The "Input" choice lists the input status on DCU terminal 86 to 97.
As an example, if DCU terminal 89 is measured to 24V, but the troubleshooting screen for that channel indicates inactive, then that input is faulty.
Run Indication Sources
A number of different sources can be configured to indicate, for the DCU, that the engine is running.
The "Run Indication Sources" page will reveal which source is providing the DCU with a running engine indication.
Button Test
Use the "Button Test" to confirm that all DCU buttons are working.
