Engine - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine lifting group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Lifting Group - Remove and Install".

Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".

  2. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

  3. Remove bolts (1). Reposition jacket water heater (3). Remove support (2).

  4. Disconnect harness assembly (4) and (6). Disconnect hose (5).

  5. Disconnect hose (7). Disconnect cable assemblies (12). Disconnect harness assembly (9) and (11). Remove bolts (8) and (10).

  6. Disconnect harness assemblies (13), (15), (16), (17) and (18). Disconnect hoses (14).

  7. Disconnect harness assembly (21). Remove bolts (19) and screen (20).

  8. Position suitable cribbing under generator (22) in order to support generator (22).

  9. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine (23). The weight of engine (23) is approximately 454 kg (1000 lb). Apply lifting tension to engine (23).

  10. Release locks (24). Remove bolts (25).

  11. Remove bolts (26).

  12. Disconnect hose assembly (27). Remove bolts (28) and engine (22).
