623G Wheel Tractor-Scraper Hydraulic System Caterpillar

Pressure Reducing Valve (Pilot, Implement) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

623G ARW

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing And Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".

Note: To ensure that the following tests will work properly, each test must be done in the proper order that is given.

(1) Test port

  1. Install tooling (A) to test port (1) .

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

  1. Lower the bowl to the ground.

  1. Move the joystick control to the bowl RAISE position. Test port (1) should have a pressure of 3200 ± 250 kPa (465 ± 35 psi).

Note: The pilot oil pressure should also be 3200 ± 250 kPa (465 ± 35 psi) when the joystick control is in any of the following positions:

    • Bowl LOWER position

    • Bowl RAISE position

    • Ejector FORWARD position

    • Ejector REVERSE position

    (2) Nut

    (3) Adjustment screw

  1. If it is necessary to adjust the pressure reducing valve, loosen nut (2) and use an allen wrench to turn adjustment screw (3) .

Note: One turn of the adjustment screw changes the pressure by approximately 310 kPa (45 psi).

  1. Stop the engine. Remove the test equipment from the machine.

    (7) Solenoid (pilot pressure supply)

  1. Move the joystick control to the elevator FORWARD position or the elevator REVERSE position. The pressure at the tee should be 3600 ± 400 kPa (520 ± 60 psi). If the correct pressure is not obtained, replace solenoid valve (5) .

  1. Stop the engine. Remove the test equipment from the machine. Reconnect the hose that was removed in Step 7 to connection (4) .

    (8) Test port

  1. Install Tooling (A) at test port (8) .

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

  1. Lower the bowl to the ground.

  1. Move the joystick control to the elevator FORWARD position or the elevator REVERSE position. The pressure at test port (8) should be 3600 ± 400 kPa (520 ± 60 psi). If the correct pressure is not obtained, replace solenoid valve (6) .

  1. Stop the engine. Remove the test equipment from the machine.
