621G and 627G Wheel Tractor-Scrapers Hydraulic System Caterpillar

Pressure Reducing Valve (Pilot, Implement) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

621G ALP

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Test port

  1. Install an 8T-0857 Pressure Gauge to test port (1) .

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

  1. Put the bowl on the ground and lower the apron.

  1. Move the joystick control to the bowl RAISE position. The pressure gauge should read 3450 ± 250 kPa (500 ± 36 psi).

Note: The pilot oil pressure should also read 3450 ± 250 kPa (500 ± 36 psi) when the joystick control is in any of the following positions:

    • Bowl LOWER position

    • Ejector FORWARD position

    • Ejector REVERSE position

    • Apron RAISE position

    • Apron LOWER position

    Pressure Reducing Valve

    (2) Nut

    (3) Adjustment screw

  1. If it is necessary to adjust the pressure reducing valve, loosen nut (2) and use an allen wrench to turn adjustment screw (3) .

Note: One turn of the adjustment screw changes the pressure by approximately 310 kPa (45 psi).

  1. When you have completed the test, remove the test equipment from the machine.
