Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Open the lower door and the upper door on the right side of the machine in order to access the fuel priming pump. Remove three bolts (1) and the washers that secure shield (2) to the support assembly. Remove shield (2) from the support assembly.

  1. Remove bolt (3) and the washer that secures clamp (4) to the support assembly. Remove clamp (4) from the support assembly.

  1. Remove two bolts (5) and the washers that secure fuel priming pump (6) to the pump adapter. Remove fuel priming pump (6) and the gasket from the pump adapter.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Verify that all of the components of the fuel priming pump are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  1. Position fuel priming pump (6) and the gasket to the pump adapter. Install two bolts (5) and the washers that secure fuel priming pump (6) to the pump adapter.

  1. Position clamp (4) to the support assembly. Install bolt (3) and the washer that secures clamp (4) to the support assembly.

  1. Position shield (2) to the support assembly. Install three bolts (1) and the washers that secure shield (2) to the support assembly. Close the upper door and the lower door on the right side of the machine.

End By:

  1. Separate the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
  2. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
