----------------------

NOTICE

Do not allow any dirt or foreign material to get into the hydraulic system during assembly, connection of lines, when components are filled with fluid, or during any maintenance operation.

Note: Do not coat any fasteners with oil or grease prior to tightening. Instructions are given when lubrication is required.

NOTICE

Maintain the oil in the hydraulic system at the correct level to prevent pump cavitation.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Illustration 1g00296023

  1. Remove all the shims from assembly (1) .

  1. Install push arm assembly (1) and cap (2) on trunnion (3) without the shims. Tighten the cap while you maintain equal distance on both sides of the cap.

  1. Insert as many shims as possible into spaces (A) and (B) between the cap and the assembly.

  1. Add two additional shims to the total shims that are used.

  1. Install half of the shims at location (A). Install the other half at location (B) .

  1. This should allow the assembly to move freely on the trunnion and within the specified tolerance.

Installation Procedure

    Illustration 2g00296047

  1. Tie the rod end of the cylinder to the base of the cylinder. This prevents the cylinder from extending during installation. Perform this procedure for both cylinders.

    Illustration 3g00509728

  1. Install bracket assembly (34) to lamp group (30) with bolt (31), washers (36), and nut (35). Tighten bolt (31) to a torque of 13 ± 3 N·m (10 ± 2 lb ft). Tighten nut (35) to a torque of 20 ± 4 N·m (15 ± 3 lb ft).

    Illustration 4g01233124

  1. Install lamp group (30) to guard assembly (26) with bolt (32) and washer (28). Tighten bolt (32) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Connect the plug on harness assembly (5) into lamp group (30) .

    Illustration 5g00509984

  1. Use four bolts (23), four washers (24), and two caps (25). Install the right lift cylinder (19) on the yoke. Tighten bolts (23) to a torque of 750 ± 90 N·m (553 ± 67 lb ft).

  1. Repeat Step 5 for the other side of machine.

    Illustration 6g00296069

  1. Connect hose assemblies (3) to ports on top of radiator guard with two seals (12), flanges, washers and bolts.

Note: Items that are not numbered are already on the machine.

  1. Repeat Step 7 for the other side of machine.

    Illustration 7g01233135

  1. Connect the harness assembly with the three pin connector that comes out of the radiator guard to harness assembly (16) .

  1. Connect the harness assembly with the two pin connector that comes out of the radiator guard to harness assembly (5) .

  1. Install plate (1) and harness assemblies (5) and (16) with four bolts (10), four washers (11), two clips (4), and two straps (14).

  1. Position the shipping bracket (if equipped) on the cylinder so that there is no interference during normal operation.

Note: Items that are not numbered are part of the lift cylinder lines. These items are included with the machine.

  1. Remove the shipping cover from the track roller frame.

Note: All mating surfaces must be clean. All mating surfaces must be free of paint. If necessary, clean these surfaces.

    Illustration 9g00296305

  1. Install the guide pins into the track roller frame. Use the same thread size as the 1 inch bolts being installed. The length of the guide pins should be 177.8 to 190.5 mm (7 to 7.5 inch).

  1. Start trunnion assembly (1) on the guide pins.

    Illustration 10g00296306

  1. Install trunnion assembly (1) with twelve bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 1050 ± 150 N·m (775 ± 111 lb ft) on both sides.

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the other side of machine.

Calibration Procedure For the Lift Cylinder Sensors and the Electrohydraulic Solenoids

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from not following the proper procedures.

To avoid the possibility of injury or death, follow the established procedure.

----------------------

Make sure that authorized service personnel perform the calibration procedure.

------ WARNING! ------

If the lift cylinder position sensors are not successfully calibrated, machine damage can result due to a mechanical collision of the blade push arm and the tracks, the blade push arm bearing and trunnion bolts, the lift cylinder and the radiator guard, the tag link and the radiator guard, or the lift cylinder and the tag link.

----------------------

Note: Machine performance will be significantly affected if ANY of the calibration procedures are omitted.

After installation of the bulldozer, the lift cylinders, and the ripper is completed, the following sensors and Electrohydraulic solenoids must be calibrated. Calibrate the sensors and the solenoids in the sequence that is specified below.

  • Lift cylinder position sensors

  • Blade lift and raise solenoids

  • Blade tilt left solenoid and blade tilt right solenoid

  • Ripper shank raise solenoid and ripper shank lower solenoid

  • Ripper shank in solenoid and ripper shank out solenoid

The calibrations can be done only with a Laptop computer. Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician software version 2.3 or higher.

Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Machines that have not been calibrated will display the following error. The VIDS message center will display the following error.

  • All EIC Sol. Out of Cal (CID 1298; FMI 13)

When one solenoid has been calibrated, the VIDS message center will display the following individual errors.

  • Right lift cylinder position sensor (CID 0869; FMI 13)

  • Left lift cylinder position sensor (CID 0870; FMI 13)

  • Blade raise solenoid (CID 1198; FMI 13)

  • Blade lower solenoid (CID 1197; FMI 13)

  • Blade tilt left solenoid (CID 498; FMI 13)

  • Blade tilt right solenoid (CID 497; FMI 13)

If a ripper is installed, the VIDS message center will display the following errors.

  • Ripper shank raise solenoid (CID 889; FMI 13)

  • Ripper shank lower solenoid (CID 888; FMI 13)

  • Ripper shank in solenoid (CID 886; FMI 13)

  • Ripper shank out solenoid (CID 887; FMI 13)

When the calibrations and a keyoff/keyon cycle have been performed, all the errors should become inactive. However, the errors can still be viewed from the VIDS message center as logged events. The logged events can be cleared from the memory of the VIDS Electronic Control Module. Use the Caterpillar electronic technician.
