NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3258" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3258" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The oil drain hole in the retarder may not have been drilled to correct dimension on certain 627F and 637E Wheel Tractor Scrapers. If the passage is not the correct size, oil in the retarder valve group will not drain off.

Rework Procedure
Refer to Service Manual as necessary. Take all necessary precautions to immobilize vehicle.
Remove scraper retarder control valve group (2P5802 Valve Group).
Refer to manual instructions as necessary.
Refer to drawing 1 for location of hole.
Use a 4.8mm drill bit that has a flute length of 180mm that will allow filings to discharge. Place a magnet (preferably circular) around the drill hole.
Complete the drill hole until it intersects with the oil gallery in the case. Regularly clear the filings by withdrawing the drill until the passage is completed. A small amount of grease can be applied to the drill bit to retain filings
Refer Illustration 2. The correct dimension for depth of the hole is 180mm (minimum)
Clean away any filings.
Install the retarder valve.
