All Caterpillar Products Equipped With 6N9294 Or 5S9088 Charging Alternator Groups
The August 13, 1979 Service Magazine article, "New 35-Ampere Alternator Used On Some Engines In Caterpillar Equipment," on page 6, told of the 6N9294 Charging Alternator Group (Delco-Remy) that is used on some Caterpillar equipment.
Both the 6N9294 Charging Alternator Group (Delco-Remy, 35 Ampere) and the 5S9088 Charging Alternator Group (Delco-Remy, 50 Ampere) have shafts that do not have a keyway.
The 2P1204 Charging Alternator Group (Prestolite, 19 Ampere) has a shaft with a keyway.
The 9S6129 Alternator Drive Pulley, used with these alternators, also has a keyway. Servicemen and customers desire to know if this pulley, with a keyway, can be used on the 6N9294 and 5S9088 Charging Alternator Groups which have shafts with no keyways.
The 9S6129 Alternator Drive Pulley can be used with the 6N9294 and 5S9088 Charging Alternator Groups. The nut which holds the pulley on the shaft gives the correct clamp force between the shaft and pulley if it is tightened to a torque of 105 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).
