Procedure to Install the 572-9451 Hood Support Brace and Mounting Gp on Certain Telehandlers {7263}

Introduction

This Special Instructions covers the installation procedure of the hood support brace and mounting group on the machines listed above.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

When removing a major component or attachment, ensure that it is properly blocked or secured before removing mounting hardware. An assembly that is disconnected without proper blocking may shift or fall, resulting in serious injury or death of personnel or machine damage.

Never use fingers to align a cylinder clevis in a mounting clevis. The cylinder could shift, severely injuring or amputating fingers.


------ WARNING! ------

Observe the safe working load limits of all lifting and blocking devices and keep a safe distance from suspended/blocked loads. Personnel may be seriously injured or killed by falling loads.

Note: Before assembly, apply thread locking compound to all threaded fasteners which do not have internal locking feature.

Machine Preparation

  1. Park machine on a firm level surface, level machine, fully retract and lower boom, place transmission in (N) NEUTRAL, engage park brake, and shut the engine OFF.

  2. Place a Do Not Operate Tag on both the ignition key switch and steering wheel.

  3. Open the engine hood and allow system fluids to cool.

  4. Properly disconnect the battery. Refer to appropriate service manual for detailed battery(s) disconnect/connect instructions.

  5. Properly support the engine hood in the fully open position.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove and discard the hardware (A) from the bottom of the engine hood hinges (C).

    Note: DO NOT remove any other hardware securing the engine hood (B) to the hinges (C).

  2. With the protective covering on the double-sided tape (D), place the hood support brace group (3) on the engine hood (B) as shown in Illustration 2. Properly align the hood hinge bracket (3) on the engine hood (B) and ensure all the four holes are visible.

  3. Mark the outline of the hood support brace group (3) on the engine hood (B).

  4. Clean with the acetone (T2) the marked space of hood hinge bracket on the engine hood (B).

  5. Lightly sand inside area of hood hinge bracket outline marked on the engine hood (B) with 80 to 120 grit sand paper (T3).

    Note: DO NOT remove more than 0.13 mm (0.005 inch) of material from inside area of bracket outline marked on the engine hood (B).

  6. Clean with acetone (T2) and dry mounting space of hood hinge bracket on engine hood (B) to remove all dust and debris.

  7. Carefully remove protective covering from the double-sided tape (D) on the hood support brace group (3).

  8. Align the hood support brace group (3) with outline marked in Step 3 and install on the engine hood (B) as shown in Illustration 4.

  9. Apply pressure to the hood support brace group (3) to ensure contact between double-sided tape (D) and the engine hood (B).

    Note: The hood support brace group (3) cannot be moved after the double-sided tape (D) is attached to the engine hood (B).

  10. Secure the hood support brace group (3) on engine hood hinges (C) with four bolts (1) and four washers (2).

  11. Tighten the bolts (1) to a torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Remove the engine hood support.

  13. Ensure the engine hood closes and latches properly.

  14. Properly reconnect the battery. Refer to appropriate service manual for detailed battery(s) disconnect/connect instructions.

  15. Close and secure the engine hood.

  16. Remove Do Not Operate Tag from both the ignition key switch and steering wheel.

  17. Return machine to service.
