Camshaft Bearings

Usage:

Remove Camshaft Bearings

Start By:

a. remove camshaft

b. remove flywheel housing

c. remove pistons

1. Remove the rear camshaft bearing with Tool (A).

2. Remove the remainder of the camshaft bearings with Tool (A). Start at the rear of the engine block and move toward the front.

Install Camshaft Bearings

1. Install the rear camshaft bearing and three internal camshaft bearings for the 3408 Engine and five internal camshaft bearings for the 3412 Engine with Tool (A). Install the bearings from the rear of the block bore. Install each bearing to the dimensions indicated in the Specifications Module.


NOTICE

Be sure each bearing is in alignment with the cylinder block bore before the bearing is installed. Install all the bearings so that the oil hole in the bearing is in a horizontal position (90 ± 15 degrees) and the bearing clinch butt joint is at an angle of 45 ± 5 degrees.


NOTE: Two different bearings (widths) are used with these engines. Install the wider bearings in the front and rear bores and the narrower bearings in the inner bores.

2. Install the front camshaft bearing with Tool (A) until it is 4.60 ± 0.50 mm (.180 ± .020 in) for the 3408 and 7.4 ± 0.50 mm (.291 ± .020 in) for the 3412 from the machined surface on the front of the cylinder block as shown.
