Fuel System

Usage:

Fuel

Check the fuel supply. Order fuel as required. See Lubrication and Maintenance chart for fuel recommendations.

Fuel Tank

Filling

Fill the day tank at the end of each day's operation. This helps prevent moisture in the air from condensing on the inside walls of the tank and contaminating the fuel with water.

Draining Water And Sediment

1. Open the fuel tank drain valve and drain water and sediment from fuel tank.
2. Close the drain valve.

Fuel Filters

Primary Fuel Filter

1. Close the fuel supply valve.
2. Loosen the nut on top of the filter base.

PRIMARY FUEL FILTER

3. Remove the housing and element and wash the element and housing in clean diesel fuel or kerosene.
4. Install the element and housing with new gaskets if necessary.
5. Open fuel supply valve and prime the system.

Final Fuel Filter

1. Close the fuel supply valve.
2. Use a strap wrench to remove the filter.
3. Clean the filter base and apply a light coat of fuel to the filter gasket.
4. Fill the element with clean diesel fuel.
5. Install the filter until the gasket touches the filter base, then give an additional 1/2 turn.

FINAL FUEL FILTER

6. Open the fuel supply valve and prime the system.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Priming The Fuel System

1. Open the filter vent valve and unlock the priming pump (push in and turn).
2. Pump until the fuel flows from the drain tube free of air bubbles.
3. Close the vent valve and lock the pump.
4. Start the engine. If the engine misfires, loosen the individual fuel injection line nuts, one at a time, until fuel flows free of air bubbles or misfiring stops.
