Usage:
Diesel Engine Lube Oil
Checking Oil Pressure Gauge Reading
After starting and during operation, frequently observe the oil pressure gauge. If the gauge indicator registers below "NORMAL", or if the indicator fluctuates, check the oil level and take corrective measures.
Checking Oil Level
Check the oil level with the engine idling. Oil level must be between the ADD and FULL marks on the oil level gauge. Add oil as required. See Lubrication and Maintenance Chart for proper oil.
CHECKING CRANKCASE OIL LEVEL
Draining Crankcase Lube Oil
With engine stopped and oil warm:
- 1. Wipe dirt from each oil filter housing.
- 2. Remove the oil filter housing drain plug(s).

- 3. Remove the crankcase oil plug.
REMOVING CRANKCASE DRAIN PLUG
OR If a sump pump is used
- a. Connect a suitable drain to the pump outlet.
- b. Open the valve to the engine crankcase.
SUMP PUMP VALVES
- c. Close the valve to the marine gear housing.
- d. Operate the sump pump handle until the crankcase is empty.
- e. Close the valve to the engine crankcase.
Cleaning Breathers - D330 & D333
- 1. Remove the breather cover and breather element.

- 2. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the fumes disposal tube.

- 3. Remove the breather assembly.
REMOVING BREATHER ASSEMBLY
- 4. Wash elements and cover in clean diesel fuel or solvent. Shake or blow parts to dry.
- 5. Install the breather, breather element and cover.
Cleaning Breathers - D334 & D336
- 1. Loosen the fumes disposal tube hose clamp.

- 2. Loosen breather cover nut.

- 3. Remove cover and elements.
REMOVING COVER AND ELEMENTS
- 4. Wash elements and cover in clean diesel fuel or solvent. Shake or blow parts to dry.
- 5. Wipe inside of breather housing with lint free cloth.
- 6. Install elements and cover.
- 7. Connect the fumes disposal tube.
Installing New Oil Filter Elements
- 1. Drain the filter housing.
- 2. Loosen the filter housing mounting bolt.
LOOSENING MOUNTING BOLTS
- 3. Remove housing and element.
REMOVING HOUSING
- 4. Remove element from housing.
REMOVING ELEMENT
- 5. Wipe filter base.
- 6. Clean filter housing.
- 7. Install new element and housing.
- 8. Install filter drain plug.
- 9. Install the drain plugs. Fill the crankcase with clean oil. See the Lubrication and Maintenance Chart for refill capacity and proper oil to use.
- 10. Check oil level before starting.
- 11. Start and run engine until it is warm; check for oil leaks.
