PROBLEM
There have been several case where camshafts have begun to spall on certain 773F, 773G, 775F, and 775G Off-Highway Trucks. The failures were mainly due to high idling times being reported, during this period the oil film between the camshaft lobe and follower can deteriate and breaks down which allows metal to metal contact. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Group 1 : 773F and 775F Off Highway Trucks The engine oil pump by-pass setting may be changed by installing a different spring and retainer in the existing engine oil pump, to increase the overall system oil pressure. The existing oil supply and return hoses will need to be updated for applications that have a right-front oil filter location. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD1465,"Higher Pressure Oil pumps Are Used in the Engines of Certain Machines". For those trucks in applications where high percentage of engine idle time may occur, and to gain the full benefit of this upgrade to improve engine durability, it is highly recommended to enable the Engine Idle Shutdown Feature. Revised engine software is required to be downloaded to 773F and 775F Off-Highway Trucks. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD1320, "New Software Containing Engine Idle Shutdown Feature (EIS) Is Now Used on Certain Off-Highway Trucks". Group 2 : 773G and 775G Off Highway Trucks For enabling the Engine Idle Shutdown Feature on 773G and 775G Off-Highway Trucks only, this feature will need to be enabled in the engine ECM using ET. |
