Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor As A Unit

1. Disconnect the fuel injection lines (1). Put caps on all openings.

2. Remove the bolts (4) that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the accessory drive shaft housing.

3. Remove the bolts (3) that hold the fuel injection pump housing to bracket (2).

4. Remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit. Weight of the unit is 60 lb. (27.2 kg).

Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor As A Unit

1. Find top center (TC) compression stroke position for No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.

2. Install tool (A) on the rear face of the accessory drive shaft housing.

3. The accessory drive shaft is in correct time if the dowels in the accessory drive shaft housing is in alignment with the dowel holes in the plate. If timing is correct, do Step 8. If the plate can not be installed, do the following steps.

4. Remove nuts (1) and cover (2) from front of timing gear cover. Remove nut and washer.

5. Install tooling (B) and make a separation of the gear from the accessory drive shaft. Turn the accessory drive shaft until tool (A) can be installed.

6. Install the conical washer on the drive shaft so the outer edge makes contact with the gear first. Install and tighten the nut to a torque of 100 ± 10 lb.ft. (13.8 ± 1.4 mkg).

7. Install the cover and bolts on front of the timing gear cover and remove tool (A).

8. Put the fuel injection pump housing and governor in position on the engine and install all bolts.

9. Remove all covers and plugs from lines and openings. Connect the fuel injection lines. Tighten fuel injection nuts to a torque of 30 ± 5 lb.ft. (4.1 ± 0.7 mkg).

Separation Of Governor From Fuel Injection Pump Housing

start by:

a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit

b) remove fuel ratio control (if so equipped)

1. Remove plate assembly from governor housing.

2. Remove two bolts (3) and remove lever (4) for the fuel shutoff solenoid.

3. Remove cover (1).

4. Remove housing (2).

5. Remove screw (7) for the rack stop collar.

6. Remove rack stop collar (5), collar (8), and spring (6).

7. Remove bolts (9) that hold the governor to the fuel injection pump housing.

8. Remove the governor housing (10).

9. Remove governor spring (13), seat assembly (11) and washer-type spring.

10. Remove bolts (12) and lock that hold the cylinder and weight assemblies (14) to the fuel injection pump housing.

11. Pull the cylinder and weight assemblies straight out making sure not to hit the dowels.

12. Move the cylinder and weight assemblies to one side to release groove (slot) in piston from the rack (15).

Connection Of Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor

1. Put the cylinder and weight assemblies (1) in position on the fuel injection pump housing so groove (slot) in piston is engaged with the rack (2).

2. Push the cylinder and weight assemblies on the dowels.

3. Install three bolts (5) and lock.

4. Install washer-type spring, seat assembly (4) and governor spring (6) on the cylinder assembly. The washer-type spring must be installed so the inside edge of the spring will make contact with the guide in the governor housing (3).

5. Put the governor housing (3) in position on the fuel injection pump housing and install the bolts that hold it.

6. Install spring (8), collar (10), and rack stop collar (7).

7. Install screw (9).

8. Put the housing (11) in position on the governor.

9. Install the lever (12) for the fuel shutoff solenoid. Install the bolts and locks that hold the lever.

10. Install the housing plate assembly so the dowel in the housing is engaged with groove (slot) (13) in the rack stop collar.

11. Install the idle screw cover.

end by:

a) install fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit

b) install fuel ratio control (if so equipped)

c) make a setting of the rack and make an adjustment to the governor (See FUEL RACK SETTING AND GOVERNOR ADJUSTMENT in TESTING AND ADJUSTING)
