Usage:
Make reference to GUIDELINE FOR REUSABLE PARTS, Form No. SEBF8030, for procedure on how to check for a bent crankshaft.
(1) Maximum length of pin out of crankshaft face ... .25 in.(6.4 mm)
(2) End play for the crankshaft (new) ... .006 to .020 in.(0.15 to 0.50 mm)
(3),(4) Make reference to CONNECTING ROD AND MAIN BEARING JOURNALS.
(5) Maximum permissible temperature of the gears for installation on the crankshaft ... 400° F(204° C)
Centerline of inside gear key way to be in alignment with centerline of dowel within ... .020 in.(0.50 mm)
NOTE: Install outside gear with "V" mark to the outside.
(6) Length of dowel out of the crankshaft ... 16 ± .02 in.(4.1 ± 0.5 mm)
(7) Rear wear sleeve and seal. For removal and installation procedure, see (10).
(8) Minimum distance below first thread for head of plug to be installed ... .100 in.(2.54 mm)
Minimum torque for six plugs ... 17 lb. ft.(23 N·m)
"Stake" (make a mark with a punch) the crankshaft to hold the plug tight.
(9) Thrust plates, at center main bearing.
(10) Front wear sleeve and seal:
Remove wear sleeves with 5P7318 Distorter Group. *
Install front and rear wear sleeves and seals as follows:
a. Clean the inner surface of the sleeve and the outer surface of the crankshaft with 8M8060 Quick Cure Primer.
b. Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the cleaned surfaces.
c. Install the sleeve and seal at the same time on the crankshaft as shown.
NOTE: See Special Instruction Form SMHS7100 for the necessary tools and complete procedure for installation of front and rear wear sleeves and seals.
*For engines with BrakeSaver, a special 5P7409 Distorter and ring from 5P7318 Distorter Group must be used to remove rear wear sleeve.
