Steel Fittings Used On Air Hoses For The Cutter Clutch{8201}

Usage:

PR-450 Pavement Profilers

Reference: Service Manual Module, "PR-450 Engine And Pump Drive Gearbox", KENR2445, Page 5.0-2; for use in Service Manuals for PR-450 Pavement Profilers, KELR1202 (7DC1-203) and KELR1214 (7DC204-Up).

Description of Change: The cutter clutch on PR-450 Pavement Profilers is engaged by air pressure. The two internal air hoses that supply air pressure to the clutch are now connected by steel fittings at both ends instead of brass fittings. See illustration. The steel fittings are more resistant to cracking.

Adaptable To: The new fittings and new hose assemblies, to adapt to the fittings, are directly adaptable to PR-450 Pavement Profilers 7DC1-Up, and earlier PR-450 Pavement Profilers equipped with the Wichita Clutch. If only one brass fitting has cracked, replace all four fittings and both hoses with the new parts shown in the illustration.

Installation Tips For Longer Clutch Life

If the new fittings are installed or if the clutch is removed, the following procedure will give longer clutch life.

1. Be sure the ring gear slides freely over the friction discs. Rework discs as needed.

2. The two elbows are threaded into the clutch plate. Be sure both elbows are installed so they point in the counterclockwise direction as viewed from the belt end. See View J-J in the illustration. This prevents centrifugal force from loosening the elbows.

3. Be sure that neither hose rubs the inside of the clutch housing. Reposition the hoses if necessary.

4. Rotate the clutch pulley as needed to align the friction disc teeth with the driving teeth on the ring gear and bolt the clutch housing to the flywheel housing.

5. Bolt the clutch housing to its support with no shims.

6. Measure the gap between the support base and the main frame. Install an amount of shims equal to the gap.

NOTE: Cross out Step 4 in the referenced Service Manual Module and note that the gap should be measured each time instead of reinstalling the same amount of shims as was removed.
