EID 1486 Autonomy Mass Storage Drive Not Accessible
Follow this procedure if an event EID 1486 Autonomy Mass Storage Drive Not Accessible occurs. This code is triggered when the system has a reduced write speed to the autonomy logger or if there is no autonomy logger installed on the machine. This code causes no immediate negative issues on the AMT. This code is meant to alert Cat MineStar System controllers of the lack of a hard drive.
Test Step 1. VERIFY AN AUTONOMY LOGGER HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON THE AMT.
- Visually look in the autonomy cabinet on the platform of the AMT to ensure that the autonomy logger is physically present.
- Ensure that all connections related to the autonomy logger are secure.
Expected Result:
Hard drive not installed.
Results:
- Hard drive not installed. -
Repair: Install autonomy logger.
Proceed to Test Step 4
- Hard drive currently installed. - Proceed to Test Step 2
- Loose connections are discovered. - Proceed to Test Step 2
Test Step 2. CHECK USB CABLE AND CONNECTIONS.
- Unplug and reinsert USB connection to the hard drive and Auto ECM #5.
- Visually inspect cable for damage. Replace if necessary.
- Verify the connections to the 12-Pin Connector to the Auto ECM #5 J3 location depicted below.
Note: The J3 location is the top connection on the right side of the Auto ECM .

- Verify the connections to the 12-Pin Connector to the Auto ECM #5 J3 location depicted below.
Expected Result:
Loose connections and damaged cables are replaced.
Results:
- Loose connections and damaged cables discovered. -
Repair: Repair or replace damaged components.
Proceed to Test Step 4
- All pin and connector verification appear correct. - Proceed to Test Step 3
Test Step 3. VERIFY AUTONOMY LOGGER HARNESS CONNECTIVITY
- Use the following table to verify pin-outs and ohms for the autonomy logger harness
Note: The J3 location is the top connection on the right side of the Auto ECM.
Note: The J1 location is the 70-Pin connector on the left.

Results:
- All pins and continuity are acceptable. -
Repair: Replace autonomy logger.
Proceed to Test Step 4
- Pins incorrectly located. -
Repair: Correct pin locations.
Proceed to Test Step 4
- Connectivity is unacceptable or inconsistent. -
Repair: Replace cable.
Proceed to Test Step 4
Test Step 4. RESTART SYSTEM.
- Key ON the machine and verify status of event.
Expected Result:
EID 1486 is no longer active.
Results:
- EID 1486 cleared. - STOP
- EID 1486 still appears. Original hard drive has been installed. - Proceed to Test Step 5
- EID 1486 still appears. Original hard drive has been removed and replaced with a new hard drive. - Proceed to Test Step 5
- EID 1486 still appears. Original hard drive has been removed and replaced with a new hard drive. All connections and cables have been checked and secured. The cause of the problem is uncertain. Contact Caterpillar technical support with the information that has been gathered. - STOP
Test Step 5. Reflash software
- Reflash the Auto 5 Software.
- Key ON the machine and verify status of event.
Expected Result:
EID 1486 is no longer active.
Results:
- EID 1486 cleared. - STOP
- EID 1486 still appears. Original hard drive has been removed and replaced with a new hard drive. All connections and cables have been checked and secured. The cause of the problem is uncertain. Contact Caterpillar technical support with the information that has been gathered. - STOP
