Idler Gears (Rear) - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the camshaft drive gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


    Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

    Note: It is not necessary to remove the rear housing in order to remove the rear idler gears.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the idler gear assembly. The weight of the idler gear assembly is approximately 54 kg (119 lb). Remove bolts (1) and retainer (2). Remove the idler gear assembly from the shaft.

  1. Disassemble the idler gear assembly:

    1. Remove bolts (6). Separate gear (5) from gear (4) .

    1. If necessary, remove bearing (3) from gear (4) .

  1. Remove thrust washer (8) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to shaft (7). The weight of shaft (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Remove bolts (9). Remove shaft (7) from the cylinder block.

  1. If necessary, remove the dowel from shaft (7) .
