Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Install the cylinder on Tooling (A), if necessary.
Note: Use straps and a suitable lifting device in order to hold the tilt cylinder in place during the assembly procedure.
Note: Put clean oil on all parts during assembly. Put clean oil on the threads of the nut that holds the piston on the rod, and install the nut. Use tooling (B) in order to tighten the nut to a torque of 6000 ± 600 N·m (4425 ± 443 lb ft). ApplyTooling (D) to the groove for seal (11) prior to assembly.

- Install seal (6), ring (7) and seal (15) on the outside diameter of head (8) .
- Install wear ring (8) and seals (9), (10) and (11) on the inside diameter of head (8) .
- Install head (16) over cylinder rod (18) .
- Install wear ring (12) and seal assembly (13) onto the piston.
- Install piston (5) and washer (14) onto cylinder rod (18) .
- Use Tooling (B) in order to install nut (4) that holds piston (5) in place on cylinder rod (18) .
- Insert cylinder rod (18), piston (5) and head (16) into cylinder (3) .
- Install four bolts (17) that hold head (16) in cylinder (3) .
- Install the bearings in the cylinder and in the rod by using the following procedure:
- Lower the temperature of new bearings (2). Use Tooling (C) and a press in order to install the bearings in the cylinder and rod so that the bearings are in the center of the bearing bores.

- Use Tooling (C) and a press in order to install seals (1) in the cylinder and in the rod.
End By: Install the tilt cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tilt Cylinder - Install".
