Start By:
- Remove the tilt cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tilt Cylinder - Remove".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove the bearings from the cylinder and from the rod by using the following procedure:
- Remove seals (1) from the cylinder and rod.
- Use Tooling (C) and a press in order to remove bearings (2) from the cylinder and rod.
Note: Use straps and a suitable lifting device in order to hold the tilt cylinder in place during the disassembly procedure.

- Install the cylinder on Tooling (A), if necessary. Remove the plugs from the openings. Slowly extend and retract the cylinder rod in order to push the oil out of the cylinder.

- Remove four bolts (17) that hold head (16) in cylinder (3) .
- Pull cylinder rod (18), piston (5) and head (16) out of cylinder (3) .
- Use Tooling (B) in order to remove nut (4) that holds piston (5) in place on cylinder rod (18) .
- Remove piston (5) and washer (14) from cylinder rod (18) .
- Remove wear ring (12) and seal assembly (13) from the piston.
- Remove head (16) from cylinder rod (18) .
- Remove wear ring (8) and seals (9), (10) and (11) from the inside diameter of head (8) .
- Remove seal (6), ring (7) and seal (15) from the outside diameter of head (8) .
