NOTICE

Disregard Engine News, SEBD9327, "An Improved Piston is Used", this Engine News contains the most recent information and part numbers.


A piston with an improved ring pack is being used. The new piston uses a different ring pack that allows better dynamics of the ring for improved performance. Oil drain holes have also been added to the crown below the oil ring in order to help improve performance of the ring.

Adaptable To: The 314-2700 Piston will be used in all the above engines except for some Defense and Federal Products engines. The 314-2700 Piston is the same weight as all of the former pistons except the 218-3589 Piston. The 314-2700 Piston may be mixed with all of the former pistons except the 218-3589 Piston. The 314-2700 Piston cannot be mixed with the heavier 218-3589 Piston. When you change from a four ring piston to a three ring piston, the engine may develop high crankcase pressure. New breather groups are available now to improve the crankcase ventilation.

The 314-2700 Piston cannot be used with the 116-0682 Cylinder Sleeve .

Note: Currently, there are two 3600 Diesel pistons in production, the 314-2700 Piston and the 241-4949 Piston. Some Defense and Federal Products engines will use the 241-4949 Piston .The 314-2700 Piston has three rings. The former pistons and the new piston are listed in Table 1.
