  • The Special Instruction, REHS1758, "Test Procedure for Brazed and Rubber End Sheet Oil Cooler" is available. This Special Instruction describes the steps that are required to test for leaks in oil coolers that have brazed end sheets or rubber end sheets.

    A high percentage of oil coolers that were returned as leaking passed the inspection. This Special Instruction provides service technicians with a list of tooling and with the steps that are required to properly test for leaks in oil coolers that have brazed end sheets or rubber end sheets.

    The test results must be written on the form that is found in this Special Instruction. In order to be compensated for the warranty work that is performed, the completed form must be submitted and the suspect oil cooler must be submitted. Caterpillar dealers will need to maintain this form in any work order which includes the replacement of a leaking oil cooler under warranty. Caterpillar dealers will be advised by the Market Organization Warranty group if there are any additional requirements for submitting claims which involve the replacement of a leaking oil cooler.

    The Special Instruction, REHS1758, "Test Procedure for Brazed and Rubber End Sheet Oil Cooler" can be obtained through normal literature ordering channels. The publication is also available on the Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS).
