Installation Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Put the heat exchanger into position and install bolt (8) onto support brackets.

- Install two bolts (9) at the front of the heat exchanger to the support bracket.
Note: If the brackets have been removed, apply Loctite 603 to the bolts that attach the brackets to the cylinder block.
- Install water temperature regulator housing (7) onto the heat exchanger. Slide hose (2) into position and tighten the hose clamps. Slide hose (4) into position and tighten the hose clamps.

- Slide hose (3) into position and tighten the hose clamps.
- Slide hose (1) into position and tighten the hose clamps.
- Install hose (5) and hose (6) onto the heat exchanger. Tighten the hose clamps.
- Install the drain plug for the engine coolant. Install the drain plug for the sea water circuit.
- Fill the cooling system. If the engine uses diesel engine antifreeze/coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses extended life coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Open the valve for the sea water inlet.
- Connect the battery. Run the engine for two minutes and check for leaks. Check the coolant level in the expansion tank.
