Introduction

This special instruction covers customer requirements and specifications for installation of the Command for Underground system. These components are not supplied by Caterpillar and must be purchased and installed by the dealer and/or customer. This special instruction is applicable to Cat® Command for Underground Equipped Machines. This supplemental product support literature shall be used with the appropriate Service Manual and the appropriate Parts Manual that is available for this standard machine. Read the entire Special Instruction. Understand the information before performing any procedures. Understand the information before ordering any parts.

Safety Section

Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person shall have the necessary training, skills, and tools in order to perform these functions properly.

Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. Therefore, the warnings in this publication and the warnings that are on the product are not all inclusive.

Ensure that all personnel are safe when using a tool, procedure, work method, or operating technique not recommended by Caterpillar. Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or the repair procedures that are used.

System Modifications

Caterpillar does not recommend modifications to the Command for Underground system or the substitution of Caterpillar provided components by customers or third parties.

Where a modification that is not recommended by Caterpillar is made, personnel modifying the system must determine that the system as modified meets appropriate requirements to be fit for use. The modifier/s must ensure that the product integrity and safety of the system will not be compromised.

Operations Area Infrastructure

Power Supply for AIS and LARN infrastructure

Power Supply for Area Isolation System (AIS) and Local Area Radio Network (LARN) Infrastructure

A power supply is required to power Area Isolation System (AIS) and Local Area Radio Network (LARN) components in the operations area. The power supply should be a separate electrical enclosure from the network switch equipment. The power supply should be stepped down from mine voltage.

Table 1
Requirements
Description  Output Voltage  Output Current
AIS and LARN Component Power Supply  48 VDC  40A (1)
(1) The power supply output current is dependent on area size and complexity. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS4612, "Command for Underground Installation Guide - Offboard Infrastructure" for power budget calculations

Power Supply Connection

Refer to Table 2 for the recommended bulkhead. The recommended bulkhead will allow easy connection of Caterpillar supplied power cables.

Mounting for AIS and LARN Infrastructure

AIS and LARN area components are fitted with mounting brackets which can be used to fix the enclosures. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS4612, "Command for Underground Installation Guide - Offboard Infrastructure" for mounting hardware and mounting bracket dimensions.

Customer Infrastructure - Networks

When the Automation/Remote Operator Station is located remotely, either underground or surface, from the Operations Area, customer network infrastructure is required for two-way communications. It is essential that LAN infrastructure devices are capable of receiving and transmitting "PROFINET" protocol for proper operation of the Area Isolation System. Refer to Table 3 for the network requirements for which the customer is responsible.

Note: Examples of remotely located Automation/Remote Operator Stations are shown in Illustration 2 and Illustration 3.

Fixed Automation/Remote Operator Station Hardware

Mounting for Automation/Remote Operator Station Hardware

Computer hardware should be housed in an environmentally controlled room that is kept dust and moisture free.

Table 4
Requirements
Appropriate room or area to house the computer hardware
Temperature controlled environment if required), to maintain temperature below 35° C (95° F)
Appropriate dust filtering

Automation Operation Station Seat

The Automation Operation Station Seat is mounted directly to the floor of the Automation Operation. Consideration should be made to the safe routing of the harnessing to and from the Automation Operation Station Seat. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS4612, "Command for Underground Installation Guide - Offboard Infrastructure".
