Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Stop the engine.
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
- Place stopper (17) in sprocket (16) in order to block forward left travel. Refer to Illustration 1.

- Connect one end of remote drain hose to connector (2). Place the other end of remote drain hose into the container for measuring case drain oil.
- Start the engine and place the power mode switch in POWER MODE position.
- Place the engine speed dial at position "10" and AEC switch OFF. Maintain the maximum no-load speed at 1850 ± 50 rpm.
- Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).
- Move the left travel control lever forward fully for one minute.
- Measure the amount of case drain oil.
- Remove stopper (17) from sprocket (16.) .
- Move the left travel control lever in order to reposition the travel motor.
- Place stopper (17) in sprocket (16.) in order to block forward left travel.
- Repeat Steps 9 through 13 in order to obtain three measurements of case drain oil.
The following values specify the maximum acceptable flow of case drain oil when the main relief valve pressure is set at 34300 ± 490 kPa (4950 ± 72 psi) and the travel crossover relief valves are set at 36800 ± 1470 kPa (5350 ± 215 psi).
- New travel motor ... 15 L/min (4 US gpm)
- Rebuilt travel motor ... 18 L/min (4.8 US gpm)
