When reporting the repair, use "PS44572" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. |

PROBLEM
The 449-3653 Radiator Enclosure Group may crack on either the right or left bottom on certain M315D 2 and M317D 2 Excavators. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If no crack is found, Before Failure, it is up to the dealers discretion to replace the hood. Also ensure that all the structural adhesive of the hood applied sufficiently. Refer to the rework steps below in order to replace the hood, if needed. Refer to Image1. If a crack is found on the bottom side, After Failure, complete the rework steps below in order to replace the hood. Refer to Image1. 1. Open the radiator enclosure group and engine cover assembly. Refer to Image2. 2. Remove the two gas springs. Refer to Image3. 3. Remove the four bolts from the engine cover side. Refer to Image4. Remove the cracked hood. 4. Remove the gas spring (refer to Image2), mirror bracket, and rod (refer to Image6) from the cracked hood and reinstall them on to the new 252-9841 Hood Assembly. Tighten to a specified torque of 28 +/- 7 N.m. 5. Assemble the 210-0605, 210-0606, and 210-0613 Insulation (refer to Image7) on to the hood. Assemble the new 252-9841 Hood Assembly on the bracket (refer to Image4). Tighten to a specified torque of 28 +/- 7 N.m. 6. Assemble the two gas springs. Refer to Image3. Tighten to a specified torque of 28 +/- 7 N.m. 7. After the new hood is installed, assemble the bulk seal and check the seal position. Refer to Image5 and follow the requirements shown. The seal end to the hood right side end 200mm to the left side end 290mm. It is recommend that Loctite 410 glue is used on points 1 to 10 (refer to Image5). In order to fix the seal, apply glue every point 20mm length. 8. Adjust the hood position in order to meet the requirements shown in Image8. If adjustment of the hood assembly up or down is required, refer to Image9 and tighten to a specified torque of 55 +/- 10 N.m. If adjustment of the hood assembly front and rear or left and right is required, refer to Image10 and tighten to a specified torque of 28 +/- 7 N.m. 9. Close the engine side door and hood assembly. Install the 296-4152 Caterpillar Film to the front side of the new hood assembly. |
