Camshaft And Timing Gears

Usage:

(1) Torque for bolts ... 80 to 95 N·m (60 to 70 lb ft)

(2) End play for the camshaft ... 0.15 to 0.25 mm (.006 to .010 in.)

Maximum permissible play ... 0.51 mm (.020 in.)

(3) Diameter of bearing surface (journal) of the camshaft ... 75.34 to 75.36 mm (2.966 to 2.967 in.)

Bore in bearing for camshaft ... 75.440 ± 0.03 mm (2.970 ± .001 in.)

Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and camshaft bearing surfaces (journals) ... 0.23 mm (.009 in.)

(4) Timing marks for camshaft and rear balancer (G379 Engines only).

(5) Timing marks for crankshaft and camshaft gears (All engines). Align the "C" mark on the camshaft gear space with the punched line tooth on the crankshaft.

(6) SAE Opposite Rotation (clockwise engine), put cluster gear on end of camshaft with "F" mark.

(7) SAE Standard Rotation (counterclockwise engine), put cluster gear on end of camshaft without "F" mark.

NOTE: Specifications (8) and (9) for G379 Engines only.

(8) Bore in bearing for balance gear ... 40.731 ± 0.048 mm (1.6036 ± .0019 in.)

Diameter of bearing surface (journal) of balance gear shaft ... 40.635 ± 0.005 mm (1.5998 ± .0002 in.)

Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and bearing surface (journal) ... 0.15 mm (.006 in.)

Install the bearing with the bearing joint on the same side as and on the centerline of the weight.

(9) End play of balancer gear ... 0.10 to 0.30 mm (.004 to .012 in.)

Maximum permissible end play ... 0.48 mm (.019 in.)
