G379 and G398 Engines; diameter of rear bearing surface (journal) of the shaft ... 41.232 ± 0.013 mm (1.6230 ± .0005 in.)
Bore in center and rear bearings ... 41.288 ± 0.013 mm (1.6255 ± .0005 in.)
Maximum permissible clearance between bearings and bearing surfaces (journals) ... 0.23 mm (.009 in.)
NOTE: Oil hole in bearing must line up with oil hole in top of bearing bore.
(3) End play of bevel pinion ... 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (.004 ± .002 in.)
Diameter of pinion bearing surface (journal) ... 23.769 ± 0.005 mm (.9358 ± .0002 in.)
Bore in bearing for pinion ... 23.813 ± 0.013 mm (.9375 ± .0005 in.)
Maximum permissible clearance between pinion and bearing ... 0.20 mm (.008 in.)
(4) End play of shaft drive ... 0.38 to 1.14 mm (.015 to .045 in.)
Diameter of bearing surface (journal) for gear ... 18.987 ± 0.013 mm (.7475 ± .0005 in.)
Bore in bearing for gear ... 19.114 ± 0.013 mm (.7523 ± .0005 in.)

NOTE: Oil hole in bearing must line up with oil hole in top of bearing bore.
(6) Use shims to adjust backlash (7). Push bevel gear away from pinion and push pinion up before measuring backlash.
(7) Amount of free movement (backlash) between bevel gear and pinion ... 0.05 to 0.15 mm (.002 to .006 in.)
